I took a couple hours the other day to stroll through some of the hiking trails up near UBC...while the day was a little rainy and overcast, I did get a few bursts of sunlight peeking through the forest canopy. Caught these mossy trees in one of those bursts.

Well, the last shot was a sunset, so of course this one had to be a sunrise! I took advantage of a chance at a free place to stay over on Vancouver Island, and spent a few days visiting a friend in Cordova Bay. One morning around 5:50 in the morning, I got up to use the bathroom and found the kitchen flooded in pink light. Despite my sleepisness, I stumbled outside to snap a few shots as the sun came up over the mountains across the channel.

First post from back in Canada!! I got this shot of the Burrard St. Bridge while heading back home after dinner downtown. Unfortunately, I didn't have my tripod with me, so I had to shoot at 1600iso, and even so there's a bit of shake. In any event, the colours were definitely worth the long walk!

It's July, which meant another trip out to the lotus gardens in Nanjo! I had my sights set on an early morning start so that I could take advantage of the soft morning light and cooler temperatures. I got my wish with the light, but before 7am, the mercury had already risen above 30C!! Not the most pleasant photo trip I've ever taken to be sure.

This will be my last post for a little while...I'm about to move, and won't have time to post for the next little while! All the best, and I'll be back again in about a month.

The second fungus shot from Oshima off the coast of Fukui. Can't decide which of these two I like the best.

I finally got around to going out to Oshima off the coast of Tojimbo in Western Fukui! It's a small little island, rumoured to be haunted, and full of pure cinnamon forest according to the English description on the sign near the head of the trails. The bottom of the trees caught my eyes, covered in some sort of fungus or growth.

Hanging koi no buri are a familiar site around Japan at the beginning of May, marking the beginning of 'Children's Day'. Traditionally this was 'Boys Day', but was changed in recent years to include honoring girls as well. I came across a large string hung across a river in Hakuba, and thought they looked great against the snowcapped mountains in the distance.

One of the most interesting part of hiking on Hakusan Shakadake, was the transition up from a warm blooming spring forest to a winter landscape on top. On the way back down, I came upon this fern in a clearing near the trail.

A few weeks ago, I got a chance to do my first 'snow hike' up a mountain! At 2000m, Hakusan Shigeiji sits next to Hakusan Shakadake, in the shadow of the main peaks of the Hakusan range. Just shy of the summit, I took this shot of Hakusan proper against clear blue skies!
