Alright, terrible puns aside, I came across this guy up on top of Grouse Mountain after a quick hike. He's part of a bird show they run up there, and as my friend and I were walking back toward the gondola down the mountain, we came across his trainers transporting him between shelters.

So I've been practicing a little bit more with Photoshop as of late (although I have to confess, I still favour shooting straight out of the camera whenever possible...I'm not that in to heavily processed images). Anyway, this is the original colour version of a black and white I posted earlier here:

Spring Bloom

It was shot with my 50mm lens and a yellow filter, then I played around with it a bit on my computer to get it to look like this. Not sure which I like better...

Also, thanks to all those who continue to post on this blog...I know I've been terrible with updates lately, but it's been a HUGE year and I don't always have the time I used to for posting!

A stroll out through the back alleys near Gastown lead to some very cool graffiti...and some not so nice experiences with a crazy woman mumbling to no one as she picked up and tossed a dead rat at a wall nearby.

The first spring blossoms are coming up outside my apartment building...I have this shot in black and white and in colour, but I'm not sure which I like better. I'll post the colour in a day or so.

I dug back into my archives for this shot...years ago on a trip to Kyoto, I visited a small garden (the name of which I've long since forgotten), and snapped a couple of pictures of the bridges and trees inside. In one shot, I managed to catch a crane as it took off over a small pool. If I'd had my 200mm back then, I probably could have gotten a much better shot.

Another shot taking advantage of the silhouettes around the English Bay Inukshuk. I'm not sure if it's a 'couples' shot or not, but they look like they're having a great evening nonetheless!

After a weekend spent working inside my apartment, I decided I REALLY needed to get out for a couple of hours, so I tossed my camera and tripod into a pack, and walked down to English Bay to take some pictures of the inukshuk there at sunset. At first I was a little put off by the constant crowds of tourists around it, until I realized I could make use of their silhouettes for an interesting shot.

A second image from my walk through the fog...this one is more subtle than the last, but I really liked how the fog gave me a nice smooth background to work with.

Following one of the heaviest snowfalls in the past 50 years, Vancouver was then hit by a week of thick, thick fog! I lucked out when taking a walk around Jericho Beach though...after I stopped to have lunch on a bench under a tree, the sun managed to peek through the fog for about 3 minutes, flooding the area with light. When I looked up from the bench, this is what I saw.

Walking around the boat docks down near Granville Island, I was lucky enough to catch some soft sunset light glinting off the buildings along False Creek.
